Matter Collaborates in US Social Forum Activities

June 23, 2007

Collaborating with the Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI) and the Emergent Game Group (EGG) at Georgia Tech, Matter contributed planning and design to the first-ever U.S. Social Forum held in Atlanta this June. The U.S. Social Forum is a newly conceived version of the World Social Forum.

Matter worked with DS4SI to develop signage materials in support of its efforts in the cultural commons and Public Space aspects of the event. Additionally, Matter worked with DS4SI and EGG to brand and develop ActionQuest, a foray into the “big games movement”, which involves social interaction and community conscious content in a game format, allowing participants to do good works under the guise of gameplay.

Applying designed consistency to an event experience and conceiving community action as a game are the kinds of work that align well to the Matter focus on contextual, systematic innovation. The teams look forward to further collaboration in these arenas.
